Family Togetherness

Over the years, my husband has worked his fair share of nights and weekends. Thankfully, one of the benefits of homeschooling is the flexibility of time!

As a homeschool family, you have the ability to nurture your family bond by rearranging your school schedule to maximize the time available to spend all together as a family. Remember that the time you spend together doesn't have to be a fancy vacation. You can benefit from spending time together every day. Dine together around your table. Serve others. Relax and enjoy fun activities. Work together as you fulfill the responsibilities of maintaining your home and commitments.

While you are spending time together, set aside the electronic distractions. Take time to listen, and empathize. Pray for each other and strengthen your family’s combined faith in God. Forgive one another when you feel hurt. Be filled with compassion, kindness, and patience in your interactions with each other.

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." (Colossians 3:12-13)

As you spend time together maintaining responsibilities, serving others, praying, relaxing, and engaging in fun activities, you will not only encourage selflessness and teamwork but also encourage close-knit family relationships throughout each season of life.

In all that you do, be thankful for your family and regard your time together as a precious treasure. When you are thankful and praise God for each member of your family, treating them as if they are gifts from God comes naturally.

"speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." (Ephesians 5:19-20)

As you praise God for each member of your family, rest well, knowing that a faith-filled, secure, supportive, and caring family life will provide a foundation from which your child will build his future relationships.
